Shadow Report to CEDAW 91: Systematic Violations of the Rights of LBTIQ+ Women in Afghanistan Before and After the Taliban Takeover

In parallel with the review of Afghanistan’s Fourth Periodic Report by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW),

Rainbow Afghanistan Organization, in joint collaboration with ILGA World and ILGA Asia, has submitted a shadow report entitled:

“The Human Rights Situation of LBTIQ+ Women in Afghanistan: Before and After the Return of the Taliban.”

This joint report is grounded in field research, harrowing survivor testimonies, and rigorous legal analysis. It demonstrates that human rights violations against LBTIQ+ women in Afghanistan—both during the period of the Islamic Republic and following the Taliban’s return—have been systematic, structural, and widespread, and continue to this day.
