New Home, New Friends
Report on the First Gathering of Afghan LGBTQ Refugees in Bremen
Rainbow Afghanistan is proud to announce that the second friendly and supportive gathering of Afghan LGBTQ refugees in Bremen was successfully held on Sunday, 21 September 2025, and Sunday, 19 October 2025.
This event was designed to create a safe and welcoming space for newly arrived Afghan LGBTQ individuals in Germany, allowing them to:
• Share their experiences of discrimination, secrecy, and violence,
• Build new relationships,
• Develop a sense of social belonging,
• And experience moments of safety, joy, and human connection together.
The gatherings took place in the warm and inclusive environment of
Rat&Tat – Zentrum für queeres Leben e.V., Hollerallee 13, Bremen,
and included open discussions, community introductions, Afghan music, and generous hospitality.
Many participants were refugees who had survived persecution, torture, sexual violence, and systematic discrimination under the Taliban in Afghanistan. These sessions provided an opportunity for them to speak freely—without fear—about the hardships of displacement, the challenges of the asylum journey, and life in exile, while receiving support from one another.
These gatherings are part of Rainbow Afghanistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the mental, social, and collective well-being of Afghan LGBTQ refugees in Germany.
We remain committed to building a network of solidarity, friendship, and support—one in which no member of our community is left alone.
