Rainbow Afghanistan Organization conducted its second legal awareness workshop, titled "Legal Awareness Workshop for Afghan LGBTIQ+ Individuals," on June 26, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM (Afghanistan time), with 19 participants in attendance. The workshop aimed to increase legal awareness, deepen their understanding of the fundamental rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals, strengthen their capacity to advocate for and protect their rights, and enhance their ability to identify, prevent, and respond to human rights violations.

Part One: Basic Concepts and Definitions
This section covered key terms related to the LGBTIQ+ individuals and explained the differences between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
Part Two: Human Rights and Civil and Political Rights
This section examined the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Yogyakarta Principles, and the right to asylum for LGBTIQ+ individuals.
Part Three: Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights
This section addressed the right to work, education, and health, as well as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, in relation to the LGBTIQ+ community.
Part Four: Human Rights Violations and Afghanistan's Legal Framework
This section analyzed four key Taliban legal documents (the Penal Code, the Law on the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Law on the Dissolution of Marriage, and decrees concerning women) and the patterns of human rights violations arising from them.
Part Five: Violence and Its Forms
This section addressed the different forms of violence (physical, psychological, sexual, economic, and social) faced by LGBTIQ+ individuals.
Part Six: Documenting Rights Violations
This section covered the principles, methods, and ethical considerations of documenting rights violations, from conducting interviews to supporting witnesses and victims.
Part Seven: Effects of Violence and Recovery
This section addressed the psychological and social effects of violence on survivors, along with supportive and restorative approaches.
Part Eight: Digital Security and Support Institutions
In the final section, digital risks, secure communication tools, and support institutions and organizations available to at-risk individuals were introduced.
This awareness workshop is designed to raise legal awareness and strengthen the capacity of LGBTIQ+ members to understand, claim, and defend their fundamental rights.
